2016’s Best Albums

2016 has been a great year for music. Especially for Hip Hop, R&B and Grime albums. Below is a comprised list of my personal favourite albums of 2016:

1. THE LIFE OF PABLO – Kanye West

Every time I listen to the album (everyday) I always find that I have a new favourite song on the album. The album never gets old, as I become addicted to different tracks constantly. Every song is brilliantly composed to form genius music.

2. COLOURING BOOK – Chance the rapper

This is chances third mixtape. In this album he express how people do new drugs and that he is making a name for himself within his songs. The views on radical politics and heavenly uplift gives listeners an understanding on the realities of life.

3. Blonde – Frank Ocean

This was one of the most anticipated albums of 2016 as this is only Frank’s second studio album. He had kept fans (including myself) awaiting for a long period of time until they were able to listen to the album. In this album you are able to appreciate the amazing vocals and composition of each song. In this album frank becomes an symbol for all of our fluid modern ideals.

4. Lemonade – Beyoncé

This is Beyoncé’s 6th solo album. In this album there is a sense of realisation as she shares that her husband (Jay Z) has been cheating on her. She is able to communicate this in an angry confident way. Throughout the album she embodies black and female pride. Every track leaves listeners with an emotional and physical response.

5. Views – Drake

This album switches between flows, intonations and genres. It is a great album to relax to.

6. ANTI – Rihanna

The build-up, of course, was remarkable. ANTI is a rich and conflicted record. at its very amusing when it’s at its most distinctive.

7. Untitled, Unmastered – Kendrick Lamar

The album is insightful and uncomfortable, if not outright offensive. A lyrically true album.

8. Konnichiwa – Skepta

The grime pioneer is full of sneering mockery for popular culture’s industry of image. This includes the police. A must listen album.
